Multinational company Ikea recently issued a recall to an estimated 27 million dressers and chests that are prone to falling after two children were killed in this manner last year, USA Today reported on July 23.
According to reports, the children died after they were knocked down by Ikea Malm chests. The affected drawers and chests reportedly are prone to tipping over and may pin down children. Aside from the two deaths in 2014, Ikea was also aware of three fatalities involving other Ikea dressers or chests since 1989. Consumers who have the recalled Ikea products are instructed to get a free repair kit, which will allow them to attach the affected products to the wall. While waiting for the repair kit, consumers are advised to temporarily keep the recalled Ikea products away from children’s reach.

IKEA issued a recall to an estimated 75,000 detachable “safety gates” in the U.S. and Canada after receiving three reports of children suffering from injuries, a May 12 article of ABC News reported.
Reports said the removable safety gates may not be properly secured between the walls, increasing the risk of children suffering from falls. The affected IKEA products were also found to have a metal bar in the lower portion that may potentially cause injury. IKEA received at least 18 complaints of malfunctioning safety gates worldwide, including the three injury complaints. Many of the faulty safety gates are available in the U.S.

An estimated 4.7 million baby strollers in the U.S. are being voluntarily recalled by its manufacturer due to amputation risks, CNN reported on November 21.
Reports said nearly a dozen models of Century and Graco strollers manufactured in China may severely injure the fingers of children during use. The affected strollers reportedly are equipped with hinges on the sides that can cut off a finger. Several incidents of partial severing of children’s fingertips caused by the strollers reached Graco, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission stated. Parents and other caretakers are instructed to make sure that the hinges are completely in the lock position and to quickly remove the child from the stroller as it begins to fold. Graco reportedly will provide repair kits for owners of the affected strollers.
