What role do personal injury lawyers play in society at large?

The Role of a Personal Injury Lawyer: Standing Up for Everyday People

Video Transcript

If you’re wondering what role a personal injury attorney serves for society at large, I think it helps to step back and look at why our court system exists in the first place. From the very beginning, our founders understood that power, whether in government or in large corporate interests, has to be held accountable and has to come with checks and balances. That’s why access to the courts was enshrined in the Seventh Amendment, right alongside other fundamental freedoms like speech, assembly and the right to keep and bear arms. The civil justice system exists to protect individual rights and to give ordinary people a fair way to hold powerful actors accountable. That’s the role a lawyer like myself plays in society. We serve as guardians of individual rights for people who don’t have the same resources, influence, or leverage as large companies or insurance carriers. Our work is all about responsibility, fairness, and accountability when someone else’s bad actions cause real harm to someone like you or your family. When someone’s injured, they’re often facing a system that is complex, technical, and stacked against them. A lawyer’s job is to stand in that gap, to use the law responsibly and ethically, so that families can take care of themselves and move forward with dignity. I genuinely love this work. Every lawyer at Goings Law Firm sees our role as one of service, using the sacred tools granted to us and the American justice system, which remains the best in the world, to help people protect what matters most. That’s a responsibility that we take seriously, and we’re grateful to be entrusted with it.
