Bedsores in Nursing Homes: What They Are and When They Signal Neglect

Video Transcript

A bedsore, also called a pressure ulcer, is an injury to the skin and underlying tissue caused by prolonged pressure on one area of the body. These often develop on bony areas like the heels, hips, tailbone and elbows, especially in people who are bedridden or who use a wheelchair. In nursing homes and hospitals, bedsores can be a sign that proper care, repositioning, nutrition or hygiene was not provided. If your loved one experienced a bedsore while in a nursing home or similar facility, it’s worth contacting an attorney to do further investigation and determine if you may have a case.
