How Often Should Your Lawyer Update You? What Good Communication Looks Like

Video Transcript

Attorney Franklin McGuire: If you’re wondering how often you should hear from your lawyer during a personal injury case, here’s what I think is reasonable. You should feel informed, respected, and able to get answers when it matters. Cases don’t move every day, so you may not get a daily update or even a weekly or monthly update, but you should absolutely be kept in the loop on the big milestones — when records are ordered, when a demand might be sent, when offers come in, when a lawsuit is filed, when depositions are scheduled, and what the next steps might be. You also deserve real access. Some firms route everything through layers of staff, intake coordinators, or case managers, and make it hard to speak with an attorney. At Goings Law Firm, we take pride in clients being able to work directly with real trial lawyers and real workers’ compensation attorneys. Good communication builds trust, and trust is the foundation of a strong attorney-client relationship.
