Bruce’s Story

Explosion at Work, Workers’ Compensation Insurance Said No. We won!

Video Transcript

Bruce: I worked at Central Aluminum for 24 years.

Christian Boesl: And what did you do at Central Aluminum?

Bruce: I was a caster. The caster poured molten metal into a solid. I started a cast. The metal got on top of a little moisture and there was an explosion.

Christian Boesl: Bruce’s injuries were pretty significant, if you can imagine having hot, molten metal burn the side of your face, your neck, your ear. Not only did he have significant injuries to that — that would require surgeries at a burn center — but in addition to that, Bruce started experiencing anxiety and nightmares. The insurance company was somewhat agreeable to treat the obvious injuries, but like in so many cases, they were reluctant to provide treatment for the not so obvious injuries that he didn’t have prior to this. It took some going back and forth. It took us going to fight. It took us filing pleadings and forms to be able to get him the treatment that he really needed. To the person who doesn’t have counsel, you might just think, okay, I have an injury and I’m just lucky to get whatever I’m supposed to get. But the reality is the Workers’ Compensation Act, the regulations, the statute — they’re designed to protect people. Bruce, what would you say to someone who was trying to handle a work injury on their own?

Bruce: I would recommend Goings Law Firm and Christian.

Christian Boesl: It’s been a pleasure to represent you and work with you and just be there with you and get to know you and your family.
