Joyce: My name is Joyce Gilbert. Originally from Jamestown, New York. We’ve lived here for about 30 years now.

Doug: And I’m Doug Gilbert, Joyce’s husband. We’ve been here at the same time.

Joyce: Well, we were coming home from visiting some friends of ours. This car came out of nowhere and just hit us head on, knocked us back about 30 feet or so. I had split my stomach open, top to bottom and side to side, ended up losing my spleen. I broke my back, my ankle and my hand and lost 22 inches of intestines and spent a month in the hospital. They didn’t think we were going to pull through, but after about four days of being in a drug-induced coma, we started to come around a little bit.
