Franklin McGuire Jr.
Franklin McGuire graduated with his Juris Doctorate from the University of South Carolina in May 2024, and is currently studying to take the bar exam in July 2024. Pending successful passage of the bar exam, Franklin is looking forward to joining Goings Law Firm as a litigation attorney.
Franklin is the married father of two boys, a soldier in the Army National Guard, and a former law clerk at Goings Law Firm. He graduated summa cum laude and #1 in his class from the Honors Program at The Citadel in 2014, where he earned a BA in English with triple minors in Leadership, Philosophy, and World History. As an undergraduate he traveled and studied extensively overseas, including spending several terms at Oxford University studying leadership, a summer interning in the House of Lords in London, and several summers traveling for research projects throughout Europe and Africa.
After college, Franklin worked in business development for several tech startups before launching businesses of his own, including a vacation rentals company in Charleston that he exited before relocating back to the Midlands for marriage and graduate school. In law school, a “side hustle” turned into a fast-growing company when his military apparel brand, CIVVIESUPPLY, won the Darla Moore School of Business’s annual “Shark Tank” pitch competition in 2019, which ultimately prompted Franklin to take a leave of absence from graduate school to focus on growing the business. That business spun off a second company, Heritage Brands, which specializes in podcasting and influence marketing for professional service firms, public figures, and business executives.
After outsourcing CIVVIESUPPLY’s operations and selling Heritage Brands to his former employees, Franklin transitioned back to law school to finish his degrees, ultimately graduating cum laude from the Joseph F. Rice School of Law at the University of South Carolina, where he was a Konduros Leadership Fellow and a law clerk at both Parker Poe and the South Carolina Senate. Franklin also graduated with his MBA from the Darla Moore School of Business at USC, a degree to which he attributes much of his strengths in marketing, business management, and data analytics. In addition to his actual work as a lawyer, Franklin enjoys getting to leverage those business skills on a daily basis as he works to support his boss and mentor, Robert Goings, in some of the daily operational work of Goings Law Firm.
Franklin is a native of the Southeast and has called South Carolina’s Midlands home since moving as a small child to Lexington, where he was raised. He is passionate about representing the everyday people of our region and state, who too often find the balance of power tilted substantially against them when they are fighting for their rights against big insurance companies and out-of-state corporations with deep pockets. A common-sense belief in old-fashioned American values animates Franklin’s entire approach to the law — our laws were made to protect everyday citizens, and he is proud to fight for those folks day in and day out here at Goings Law Firm.
Outside of his work at the Firm, Franklin takes pride in serving his state and nation as a Public Affairs Officer in the South Carolina Army National Guard, and he still enjoys sketching up the occasional new design for one of CIVVIESUPPLY’s officially licensed military apparel collections. A dedicated family man, Franklin enjoys traveling with his wife Aryn, particularly in the Lowcountry and in Western North Carolina, and he loves spending time with his sons Frank and Roy and his local extended family in Gilbert and Columbia. He is a member of First Presbyterian Church, a Board Member of the Palmetto Military Academy Association, and the Alumni Class Chair of The Citadel Class of 2014.
