Firefighter dead in Anderson County DUI accident

A firefighter was killed while performing his duties at the vicinity of Sandy Springs Road after he was struck by a vehicle whose driver was under the influence, wyff4.com reported on February 16.

Authorities confirmed the death of Sandy Springs Fire Department member, 52-year-old Kenneth Stanton. Stanton reportedly was responding to an accident on Highway 76 at around 9:00 p.m. when he was struck by a vehicle operated by 64-year-old Charles Pickens. Authorities later apprehended Pickens at his house in Pendleton. Several charges were filed against Pickens including felony DUI resulting in death and fleeing the accident scene.
